We have completed successfully a two-week artistic residency that paired drama-therapy research with hands-on creation in Sweden, Denmark and Italy.

We have completed successfully a two-week artistic residency that paired drama-therapy research with hands-on creation in Sweden, Denmark and Italy. A psychotherapist (Giuseppe Scarabello), three performing artists (Andrea Marchetti, Silvia Brizioli, Cecilia Roni and a cultural worker (Handan Akarsu Scarabello) worked alongside people living with neurodegenerative diseases as Alzheimer’s and other dementias, their caregivers, local musicians and community theatres.

Together we

    1. Explored how live performance can stimulate emotions and movement.

Beyond the Silence: Living with Neurodegeneration a 14 minutes short documentary  capturing the process, challenges and breakthroughs during this 2 weeks of journey with interviews done with people with neurodegenerative diseases and their caregivers and scenes from the social theatre practice done in Copenhagen.

The mobility closed with a stage play, a documentary, and an open-source practical guide for artists, therapists and care facilities. All materials are freely available to encourage wider adoption of arts-based approaches in dementia care and to spark new collaborations across the cultural and health sectors
